My computer HP Z400 Workstation has recently started giving a BIOS error just seconds before my Dell monitor starts displaying Cannot Display This Video Mode, Optimum resolution 1280x1024 60Hz. The BIOS message appears after I select my OS from the GRUB menu. I can use the computer, I just can't see anything on the screen except the error message.
I have tried installing windows, which installs normal but the monitor error is still there, proving this a hardware issue. I am using a VGA cable for my monitor with no adapters, I unfortunately cannot try on any other monitor as this is my only one.
The BIOS error before the monitor error
After some research, I could not be certain if this is a driver issue. I have tried fromatting the drive completely and reinstalling the OS. The issue started after I performed a sudo apt-get update command on a debian distribution. The command worked fine, but after the next reboot, I started getting the error. Running that command was the only "change" I have performed.
I tried running a live version of Tails OS, which gives the same error. I can only access a desktop from the live Debian OS from the setup USB flash drive.
I tried setting secure boot off, but it turns out the Z400 does not have a secure boot or a UEFI/Legacy boot option in BIOS. I have tried every option through BIOS with no avail.
