In Maya, how to unparent multiple child nodes

I was literally able to this a couple of days ago, but it does not work in the current project.

I have multiple parent nodes and I want to unparent the child nodes. I used to be able to select all the parent nodes, then hit the down arrow key, which would select all the child nodes, then I would use Shift + P to unparent all the child nodes, but today, I find that it just moves one of the objects down. Under the edit menu for undo, it is listed as

Undo "PickWalkDown

I have over 11,000 parent nodes to unparent the child nodes. I cannot go through each of these nodes to select the child node, followed by Shift + nodes and finish this project in this lifetime.

multiple parent nodes

No errors, yet Maya is not doing what I literally did two days ago, which was to click on the down arrow key

As usual, thanks in advance

Found a workaround: Select> All by type> NURBS Surface Shift + P Delete the remaining unfilled parent nodes Group the remaining child nodes

select by NURBS SurfaceShift + P to unparent child nodesDelete remaining parent nodes and group the newly unparent child nodes
